Is it the End or the Beginning?

I like to take the time at the end of the year to reflect back on some of the things I learned over the year. At a time when most of us need to be doing that in order to assess where we want to go, we rev our engines and race around like rats on speed trying to get things done as if time would run out and we would be left standing on the street corner with cup in hand or worse, arrive at the grocery store just after the last gallon of milk and loaf of bread has been sold. Could I be so shallow as to complain about a friend whose worse nightmare is for the glaze to slide off her holiday ham?

Your Map of me IS only your Map of me

Your brain is like a huge machine without an off switch. If you don’t give it something to do, it will come up with something all by itself. If you put someone in a deprivation tank where there is no outside experience, his/her brain will start generating internal experience. And it doesn’t care what it generates. You do, but it doesn’t. From day to day our brain takes in millions of bits of information and it has a way of categorizing it, sorting it, storing it and retrieving it. And the only way it can do that is through the experience that is already there.

A Word to the Wise

The following question was asked of Milton Erickson: Are you aware of the way in which you use your words? He replied: I certainly am, and I want to emphasize the importance of that awareness in all of you. In any work, you are going to use words to influence the psychological life of an individual today.

Changing Places

Growth takes place at different times for different people in different ways. People who are willing to voluntarily take risks will find exquisite resources in place for times when they are dealing with challenges. Playing it safe can feel good in the short term and can have devastating results in the long term.

Creating Your Ideal Life

Over the summer and fall I have been acutely aware of the lack of control people are having over the events in their lives. Among my observations is the distress the many people are suffering from is unnecessary. People are beginning to live way beyond their biological limits. The choices they are making indicate a lack of awareness, focus and clarity of purpose.

Flow

Why are some people weakened by stress, while others gain strength from it? Basically the answer is simple: those who know how to transform a hopeless situation into a new flow activity that can be controlled will be able to enjoy themselves and emerge stronger from the ordeal. There are three main steps that seem to be involved in such transformations:

Getting Rid of the Old

In case you haven't noticed, the world has changed. And as you look back over a lifetime of things, decisions, and activities you've probably changed also, maybe reluctantly, but we all change. Change – the interesting thing about it is that we can't stop it. Yet we hang onto things, ideas, thinking patterns, old ways of doing things to remind us of how not to move forward.

Instead of Me Writing to You

IInstead of me writing something to you this issue, I decided to let you read what you have been writing to me. I anticipate you will find this inspiring. Thank you for all of your feedback. "I began seeing positive changes immediately after you and I met and things just keep getting better and better". "I had no idea the change would be so profound."

Making Decisions

What is your motivation for making decisions? Is it Fear or Faith? There are many ways to look at these two states. We could be moving away from pain as opposed to moving towards pleasure; we could be playing it safe rather than taking risks; we could be focused on the glass half empty as opposed to the glass half full; we could be focused on what’s missing rather than what’s there;

Mind Body Soul

To win, whether you are running a race, going to school, working at a career, you must do more than simply take care of your physical body. You must fill your mind with positive thoughts and take care of your soul, which is to pay attention to what has heart and meaning.

Money to Have

What we experience about money is what we believe. The ultimate conflict comes from our culture. We grow up in a country where we are told that we have every opportunity to be and have anything we want. That is certainly true when we compare us to the rest of the world. Yet, the messages we get at home are..

More Change

The true leader and the highly successful person anticipates change and prepares ahead of time by building their skills, resources and creativity as an ongoing process. The more unskilled a person is in behavioral flexibility, communication and creative thinking in today's changing world, the higher their stress level, the more ineffective they are, and the more likely they are to become victims of their own ineptness.

NLP and Health

The processes of NLP are designed to help resolve the conflict and help the person access their own natural healing ability. Most people are not motivated to do anything different until faced with the symptoms of ill health. The word "health" is a nominalization of the process of life.

NLP Parenting

These are just a few examples of how I have applied NLP to building a better working relationship with my children. Not only have I been able to establish and achieve the type of parenting style I want, I honestly enjoy parenting more. As for the family - we're doing quite well ..

One Giant Leap

II see opportunity in every circumstance. I embrace change knowing that the best outcome is the only outcome possible. I understand the relationship between the quality of my life and the quality of my communication. I realize how much easier it is to have a positive outlook, and how expectation plays such a critical role in achieving my outcomes. Most of all, I know what I want, and I know how to get it.

Entrepreneurial Terror

It is predicted that many people will eventually start their own businesses rather than go back into the corporations. Many will learn, as I did, that security comes from inside of you and your abilities, not from the HR department of Company Zero. The question to ask is, “Am I ready?”

Perceptual Positions and Dealing with Loss

People who suffer the loss of someone through sudden death experience the five stages of grief, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. They also have the high need to know in detail what happened as if the knowing helps us to understand and make sense of something that doesn't make sense at all, and to heal.

RELENTLESS CHANGE: Process then practice

Where does your level of commitment lie? Is it near the high end of relentless pursuit of excellence or does it lie near to middle to lower end of the spectrum? If it's near the lower end of the spectrum, have you bought into someone else's idea of who you are and what you can accomplish..

Whatever happened to the Bionic Woman?

Research shows mind influences your body. There are people who have used their mind and experienced significant healing. We may not be able to leap tall buildings with a single bound, however, we do have capabilities that are way under utilized. Our mind has the ability to do all sorts of incredible things. We just have to know how to do it.

The State of Our Minds

IIt's impossible to know how things will work out unless you plan it for it. We are living the life we created years ago through our thoughts, language, behavior and the choices we've made. It takes guts to do something new and different, to love unconditionally, to laugh when we want to cry, to cry when we're deeply hurt, to be human.

Winds of Change

I am clear on the fact that what I held as important was not very important after all. I am now completely exhausted physically and emotionally. However, I knew that I would never be the same. Climbing almost straight up in volcanic ash, I finally got the message: SURRENDER to things I cannot change, everything is perfect the way it is, whatever happens, it just doesn't matter and MY LIFE IS NOT HARD.
